Retreat Ceremony
On Thursday, May 19th, a special Retreat Ceremony was held as part of Reunion 2022 (our 60th). It was “special” in that it was honoring the Moncrief family of Fort Worth, TX … a family with whom our classmate Mike Hood has maintained a very close friendship ever since his days of growing up in Fort Worth.
Since the 1930s, at least 10 members of the Moncrief family have attended either CMA or CGA … with more to come. W. A. “Tex” Moncrief ‘37 sent 3 sons to Culver (Richard ‘60, Herbie ‘62, and Charlie ‘67) and has supported the school in many other ways.
Sadly, both Tex and Charlie passed away during the past year. (Our classmate Herbie was killed in a motorcycle accident back in 1966 while on leave from Marine Corps Training.) To honor the family, Tex’s granddaughter (Charlie’s daughter, Herbie’s niece) Michelle Moncrief CGA ‘92 was invited to pull the lanyard to fire the cannon at this Retreat Ceremony. And Mike escorted her.
Michelle’s firing the salute was a very fitting tribute to one of our great Culver families.
