James Grant “J” Golightly — Deceased August 21, 2023
J – James Grant Golightly of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Canada passed suddenly on Monday, August 21, 2023, with Sandy by his side.
J was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, June 21, 1943, to Ruth Felps Weakly and Fred Clements Leroux. Shortly after, Ruth and J moved back to U.S.A. where Ruth married Robert Edward Golightly and J was adopted by Robert.
J attended Culver Academies where he was involved in wrestling, marathon running, developed his interest in English grammar and a fondness for the bells of a carillon.
His knowledge of the English language took him on a six-month teaching trip to Taiwan.
He loved planes – his mother had hosted Amelia Earhart while she was in college. He also loved helicopters, later getting his helicopter license; buses, and trains!
He worked on railroads from New Mexico to Vancouver Island and was also an excellent model-railroader. When not working on trains, J drove over a million, accident-free, miles on highway coaches.
J was a proud member of Mensa, an avid photographer, a punster, and had a lovely child-like sense of humor.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Sandy Rapley; his sister Emily Golightly Rusk, and his many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. from Shaunavon Senior Citizen's Centre. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) is in charge of the arrangements.
