Chet Marshall Inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame

Spurred by the Class of '62 creation of the Chester A. Marshall Excellence in Athletics Fund,

during the Spring of 2010, Culver selected Coach Marshall to be inducted into the Culver Athletic Hall of Fame for his lifetime achievements.

With very little budget, under his term as Athletic Director, Chet was able to manage 21 varsity sports and achieve the following accomplishments:

  • Culver admitted to full membership in Indiana High School Athletic Association.

  • Created Indiana's first inter-school varsity soccer program.

  • Hosted the Pan-American Olympic Kayak-Canoe Championships with ten countries represented.

  • Held the first-ever Junior Olympic Fencing and Archery Tournaments

  • Formed a downriver varsity canoe racing team.

  • Began a swim program for area Boy Scouts.

  • Designed Culver's first weight-training room.

  • Organized and managed CMA swim team volunteers in the Marshall-Starke Counties Swim program for developmentally disabled children

  • Implemented Culver's physical development program.

Chet's son (Chet Marshall III, Director of the Alumni Fund at the Academies in the 2010 timeframe) wishes to thank all those who helped make this happen. "I'm not sure the recognition would have occurred had it not been for your class, their thoughtfulness and compassion. Thanks for all your help!"
